What is The PIS (Abono Salarial) and Who is Eligible?

The Abono Salarial is an annual benefit of up to one minimum wage, paid to eligible workers based on the prior base year.

Eligibility follows four core criteria.

  • You must be registered in PIS/Pasep for at least five years
  • You must have worked with a formal contract for at least 30 days in the base year
  • Your average monthly wage in that year must be up to two minimum wages
  • Your employer must have correctly reported your data to RAIS/eSocial within the official deadlines.

For the 2025 exercise, authorities confirmed these rules and opened consultations in early February.

When an employer submits information late or with errors, the worker may appear as “not eligible” for the current cycle.

After correction, payment typically moves to the next cycle.

When are 2025 Payments Made?

For the 2025 exercise (base year 2023), payments follow a month-of-birth schedule.

They begin in February and remain available through December 29, 2025. The calendar is set nationally and published by the labor authorities.

After that date, unpaid amounts generally return to the program’s fund under the applicable rules.

If you cannot withdraw or receive during the window, contact the paying bank to understand reissuance or the applicable procedure in your case.

Where and How Payment Happens (PIS × Pasep)

PIS (private-sector workers) paid by Caixa Econômica Federal

The usual options include automatic credit to a CAIXA account, credit to CAIXA Tem (social digital savings), withdrawals at ATMs and lottery outlets.

Pasep (public-sector workers) paid by Banco do Brasil

Options typically include credit to a BB account, PIX or TED transfers to other banks, or in-branch payment upon presenting a valid ID.

How to Check Your PIS Payment Online for Free

The Free, Official Ways to Check Your PIS Online

You do not need to pay any intermediary or use unofficial apps to check your PIS payment online.

The consultation is free and provided through government platforms.

Carteira de Trabalho Digital (mobile app)

This is the fastest and most complete way to see whether you are eligible, your amount, the payment date, and your bank.

Install or update the Carteira de Trabalho Digital app (Android/iOS). Sign in with your gov.br account using your CPF and password.

On the home screen, tap BenefíciosAbono Salarial. Open Pagamentos to view your status (“habilitado” or not).

Tip: In the same app, you can find your PIS/Pasep number and track other benefits. Follow only the instructions presented inside the official app and portal.

Portal gov.br (web)

If you prefer a computer, use the gov.br portal with your CPF login.

Within the Abono Salarial service, you can consult eligibility and payment information and, when necessary, follow directions to the paying bank.

Free phone support

You can also call Alô Trabalho – 158 (free, Monday to Saturday, 7:00–22:00, except national holidays).

The line can confirm eligibility and help with common issues such as missing employer data.

How The Amount is Calculated

The Abono Salarial is proportional to the number of months worked in the base year.

Workers who were formally employed for all 12 months receive the maximum amount (up to one minimum wage).

Those who worked fewer months receive a proportional fraction. The precise calculation is handled automatically by the government systems.

When you consult in the app or portal, the exact amount appears next to your status and payment details.

If Your Eligibility is Missing or Wrong

It is common to see “não habilitado” (not eligible) due to data inconsistencies

The most frequent cause is missing or incorrect RAIS/eSocial submissions by the employer within the deadline.

If you believe you meet the criteria but the system shows you as ineligible, take the following steps:

  1. Contact your employer’s HR/payroll and ask them to verify the information sent to RAIS/eSocial for the base year.
  2. Confirm your dates of employment, average monthly salary, and whether your PIS/Pasep registration is at least five years old.
  3. After your employer corrects the data, check your PIS payment online again in the app or portal.

If the deadline for the current cycle has passed, payment may move to the next exercise, at which time your eligibility should appear.

If your benefit was issued but not received, ask the paying bank about reissuance.

There is a multi-year window to claim unpaid Abono Salarial; keep records of your employment and identity documents to support your request.

Security Notes: Avoid Unofficial Intermediaries to Check Your PIS Payment Online

The consultation and payment are free. Use only gov.br, the Carteira de Trabalho Digital app, Caixa (for PIS), and Banco do Brasil (for Pasep).

Be cautious with websites or apps that request payment, advanced fees, or personal data outside official authentication.

Avoid sharing your CPF, passwords, or one-time codes with third parties.

When in doubt, rely on the app/portal and the official bank channels, or call 158.

Alternatives to PIS

Seguro-desemprego: temporary payments if you’re laid off without cause and meet contribution/time rules.

Salário-família: monthly add-on for low-income workers with dependent children, paid via payroll/INSS according to income bands.

13º salário: mandatory year-end bonus for employees; not a social benefit, but a guaranteed extra paycheck.

PLR (Participação nos Lucros e Resultados): profit-sharing when negotiated between the company and the workers’ representatives; not universal.

Final Note

If you encounter technical issues with the app or portal, try updating the Carteira de Trabalho Digital, clearing the app cache, or switching to the web portal.

When you need human support, call Alô Trabalho 158 and ask your employer to verify RAIS/eSocial submissions—these steps resolve most “not eligible” cases.

This guide focuses on official, no-cost methods so you can check your PIS payment online quickly, safely, and without intermediaries.
